George Rowbottom
George Rowbottom was born and educated in the UK. He graduated from, what is now, Leeds Arts University with a 1st. Class Honours BA in Fine Art (Painting). Amongst an array of artistic endeavours he has been a Creative Director in leading London advertising agencies, a copywriter, an animator, a comedy writer and performer, an art director, graphic designer and is also an approved Disney artist.
One of his first commissions was to paint murals on the walls of Elton John’s Rocket Records. He enjoyed a successful creative career in London working from his own studios in Soho, Carnaby Street and Convent Garden.His clients were in the music business, film and television, advertising, publishing and included Elton John, Queen, George Harrison’s HandMade Films, The Monty Pythons, 20th. Century Fox and Bentley Motor Cars. He has created movie posters, television and radio commercials, record sleeves, magazines and written marketing-copy for Hollywood blockbusters. He migrated to Queensland, Australia, in 2002. There his life came full circle and he began painting pictures again.
He has exhibited in London, Melbourne, Zurich, Los Angeles, Sydney, Paris, Miami, New York, the Hamptons and has works in publication and online in the USA, UK, Germany, France, Canada, the Netherlands and the UAE.
Statement
I simply paint pictures. My work is predominately figurative. My subject matter is whatever ignites my imagination and that, naturally, is ever-changing. I endeavour to make each new work unconventional, idiosyncratic and surprising while, hopefully, it remains engaging.
