Shaoming Quan

In 2024, Quan participated in group exhibitions at SFZY Gallery in Beijing and SET Studio London. He continued to exhibit with SFZY Gallery in 2025, further developing his practice through a series of group presentations. In the same year, he presented a solo exhibition in China, marking an important stage in the development of his independent artistic practice.


Statement
Shaoming Quan’s practice examines a transformation of life that is already unfolding yet remains difficult to name: when sound, files, data, and electronic structures cease to function merely as passive carriers of information and begin to behave through generation, replication, mutation, and memory, can life still be defined by the organic body alone? Working across moving image, sound, interactive media, and sculpture, he dismantles the body into circulating informational units, then gives those units weight, form, and spatial presence, allowing them to aggregate into hybrid entities somewhere between electronic landscapes, non-human organisms, and technological ecologies. Rather than returning to the familiar cyborg narrative of human–machine fusion, Quan is interested in how information itself begins to acquire biological behaviours, and how the human gradually withdraws from the centre of the system to become only one unit among many. Moving from bodily deconstruction and materialised information toward generative landscapes, coexistence, and reproduction, his work ultimately returns to the individual and to memory, asking what still allows us to recognise a life—and a self—when generative systems and externalised memory are becoming conditions of everyday reality
