Matúš Lányi

Matúš Lányi (b. Slovakia) is a multidisciplinary visual artist whose work bridges architecture, symbolism, and nature. He graduated from Faculty of Art at Technical University in Slovakia with a focus on experimental art, developing a distinctive style that combines meticulous precision with contemplative depth.
His works have been exhibited in group shows and are held in private collections. Through his art, Lányi invites viewers to engage with themes of sacred space, symbolism, and the quiet dialogue between the natural and the spiritual world.

Statement
My flower paintings are created entirely from real flowers, petals, leaves, and herbs. Each piece is a one-of-a-kind work of art. Every flower, petal, and leaf is carefully hand-picked, dried, and then arranged on canvas into spectacular compositions.
After collecting the natural materials, I carefully prepare them to preserve their form, color, and texture for as long as possible. The plants on canvas have a soothing effect — their natural presence invites calm, helps improve concentration, and inspires multiple interpretations of their meaning.
These works are not just decorative pieces; they are meditative compositions. By bringing natural elements into interior spaces, my paintings create a tangible connection to the natural world and remind viewers of its quiet beauty.
One of my other artistic pursuits involves creating large-scale drawings of medieval cathedral floor plans on sports fields or natural meadows. These drawings are executed either at a symbolic scale or in their actual proportions.
I aim to explore the relationship between the physical and cultural dimensions of the cathedrals and the context of the spaces in which the drawings are created.
At the same time, I seek to provoke reflection on the spiritual dimensions these sacred spaces represent.
